Lewis A. Eakins, PhD (Incumbent) for IACLEA Director-at-Large
Dear Colleagues,
As the incumbent, it is with humility that I request your vote to continue to serve as your Director-at-Large for IACLEA. I would like to continue to dedicate all my energies and efforts to address the issues facing campus law enforcement and public safety.?
Since becoming a member of IACLEA in 2011, I have sought to do my part to propel the Association to greater heights. Here is a snapshot of my involvement:
- Finance Committee member (2021 ? Present)
- 2020 ? 2021 Mountain Pacific Region Director (Relocated out of the region)
- President’s Award ? bestowed at the 2020 Annual Conference for “Excellence in Service”
- Strategic Planning Committee (2019 ? 2020)
- 2018 ? 2020 Chair, Education & Learning Committee ? led the development of the inaugural offering of the First-line Supervisor Institute (FLSI)
- 2016 Annual Conference presenter in Phoenix, AZ on the topic “Public Safety Leadership: A Convergence of Several Styles”
- 2014 Annual Conference presenter in Montreal, CA on the topic “From Non-sworn to Sworn: The Oakwood University Experience”
Moving forward, if elected, it is my plan to network with as many of you as possible to learn from our shared experiences, understand your needs, and be your voice on the Board. I will apply my experience working at four (4) institutions of higher education during my career inclusive of state institutions in sworn and non-sworn capacities, a two-year institution, and at a private institution where I orchestrated the transition from non-sworn to sworn status. I am well aware of the nuances and the challenges faced by directors and chiefs across a broad spectrum of institutions.
I fully understand the responsibilities of the Director-at-Large position. It is to represent every member and our organization regardless of geographical location, size, or public vs. private status; to serve as a mentor and supporter to those new to campus law enforcement and public safety; and to champion the goals and objectives of the Association.
These are challenging times in our country and for our campuses. I feel privileged to be on the ballot to continue serving in this position. I sincerely solicit your support and promise to represent each one of you to the best of my God-given ability.
Yours in Service,
Lewis
