  Mandatory Overtime Coverage

  Hi everyone,

  We’ve been experiencing an increasing number of last-minute call-offs in our department, and it’s becoming a challenge to ensure proper coverage. Some of our officers are willing to hold over at the end of their shifts until we find coverage, but others are understandably not open to being held over.

  I’m wondering if any of you have implemented?mandatory overtime policies?at your respective institutions, particularly for?non-sworn departments?like ours. If so:

  • Would you be willing to share your policies/procedures around mandatory overtime?
  • Has your policy been approved by HR/administration, or have you experienced pushback?
  • How has it been received by your officers/staff?

  Any insights, experiences, or shared policies would be greatly appreciated as we explore potential solutions.
