Endorsement of Dr. Jennifer Griffin for the Director At-Large Position!
I am honored to endorse VP/Chief Jennifer Griffin for the Director At-Large position within IACLEA for the 2025-2026 term.??I have known Chief Griffin for two years as I currently serve as her Deputy Chief for the Temple University Department of Public Safety.?
I am writing to provide my strongest endorsement for Chief Jennifer Griffin for the position of Director-At-Large with the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). I have had the privilege of working alongside Chief Griffin, and I have witnessed firsthand her transformational leadership, dedication, and commitment to the department and the Temple community.?
Leadership and Vision ?
Since assuming the role of Chief of Police in September 2022, Chief Griffin has consistently demonstrated a strong and visionary leadership style. Under her guidance, the Temple University Department of Public Safety (TUDPS) has seen remarkable improvements in community engagement, crime reduction, and departmental efficiency. Her emphasis on building trust and transparency with the university community has resulted in an enhanced sense of safety among students, faculty, and staff.?
Innovation in Campus Safety?
Chief Griffin has been at the forefront of adopting and implementing innovative technologies to enhance campus safety, from CCTV enhancement, AI gun detection technology, ALPRs throughout the open campus footprint and the remodeling of the department Communication Center.
Impact on Campus Safety??
Chief Griffin’s leadership has directly contributed to a significant reduction in campus crime rates, particularly in the areas of violent crime and property theft. Students are feeling safer too, through targeted crime prevention initiatives such as park and walks, enhanced patrols and community outreach programs. Her proactive approach to crime prevention has earned the department recognition both within the university and beyond, with several successful partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.
Community Engagement?
Chief Griffin’s commitment to community safety extends well beyond campus boundaries. In fact, protecting our North Philadelphia neighbors who live off-campus is just as important to Chief Griffin ? and her entire department – as protecting those on campus. She often says that Temple Police don’t just talk the talk about this principal but also walk the walk.?Temple Police are assisting those who live in the area, demonstrating the department’s connection and the commitment to the community.?
Impact on Department Morale
Chief Griffin has placed a strong emphasis on increasing police officer morale. In July of 2023, TUDPS started a pilot to trial a 12-hour shift for all police officers. This pilot was scheduled to operate for four full months and then was permanently installed. Not only did this increase the well-being of the officers and increase the number of officers working during their shift, but it resulted in overtime savings at the end of the 2024 fiscal budget.?She launched a monthly internal newsletter that highlights accomplishments made police officers, security officers, dispatchers and administrators. This newsletter has been especially impactful to recognize the diligent work of the department. Additionally, TUDPS stands out among other university police departments with its online hashtag, #ProudTUserve. This hashtag is used in all social media posts that represent great public safety work. Under the hashtag, our communications director has also produced videos to highlight individuals within the department. These Proud TU Serve videos incorporate how long a Public Safety employee has worked at the university and why they are proud to serve the Temple community. The Proud TU Serve motto is a hat tip to the meaning of the police badge – a symbol of trust and service of the officer who wears it. At TUDPS, we are all proud to serve the Temple community.??
Chief Jennifer Griffin is an exceptional leader whose impact on Temple University’s campus safety has been transformative. Her dedication to innovation, community engagement, diversity, and inclusion and increasing employee morale has created a safer, more inclusive campus environment. Chief Griffin exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding chief, and her leadership continues to inspire and protect those who call Temple University home.?
It is with great enthusiasm that I am endorsing VP/Chief Jennifer Griffin for the IACLEA Director At-Large position, in recognition of her unparalleled service, dedication, and commitment to advancing the safety and well-being of her campus community.??
