  Benchmarking Healthcare Security & Police

  In 2019, my firm collaborated with a client to restructure their security department and revamp the training program for their Security Officers. We conducted a benchmarking study to analyze current trends in healthcare system Security Department setup, staffing, training, and defensive tools prevalence. The insights gathered were published in a benchmarking whitepaper in 2020 (attached below).

  Recently, I’ve received numerous inquiries about the benchmarking study, especially with the significant changes post-pandemic and with more and more Universities becoming more involved in the healthcare space. Earlier this month we initiated an updated survey to capture the latest data, and over the last two weeks participants have provided data from over 175 hospitals (of which more than 100 are affiliated with a University system) and more than 2,500 ambulatory sites located in the United States, Canada, Columbia, Ireland, Egypt, Spain, Mexico, Nigeria, and Singapore.

  This is a great start and ensures the findings will provide statistically valid data, but can only improve from additional participation so we are opening the survey up and sharing with several member of several different associations, including IACLEA, who we feel would benefit from it. We would greatly appreciate your input and for you to share with other University Police/Security colleagues whose responsibilities include healthcare organizations. Your responses will remain anonymous, and we will share the findings with all contributors once the data collection is complete.
