    Good Morning Colleagues,

I am interested in obtaining a copy of your department’s naloxone (narcan) policy/procedure. If you would be open to sharing your policy/procedure could you email me a copy to ssantiago@dom.edu. For context my unit is non-sworn, un-armed, department. Our wellness center is asking us to collaborate in the deploying of narcan on our campus. Their expectation is that all of our staff will carry it and use as part of our duties. While I want to partner of course, I am not finding very many examples of policies and procedures that we might adopt. Hoping you might assist me.?

    Warmest Regards,?

    Sasha?

    Hi Sasha

Our unsworn, unarmed team has full access to Naloxone. Initially, we considered developing a separate policy and procedure for its use, but ultimately decided to treat it the same way we do AEDs and other first aid supplies. Team members are trained in its administration, have quick access to it, and respond as medical responders. As such, no special or separate procedure is required.

Last year the State of Washington passed a law making it mandatory to have Naloxone available on university campuses. Our Health & Wellness department oversees the campus program with input from me at the PD. And then I oversee the policy for the officers. Prior to the law change, the university only had the police carry Naloxone. I have emailed you both the PD policy and the University Standard. The University’s standard may be useful.?
